Pineapples
also called Ananas, perennial, are juicy, fleshy tropical
fruits. They are sweet fruits with spiny peels. Pineapples when cut can retain
most of its nutrients for more than 5days.
Fresh pineapples are rich are low in calories,
such that a 100g pineapple fruit contains about 50calories. It contains Vitamin
A, B-complex, C. They are rich in dietary fiber, they contain anti-inflammatory
properties. They are anti-oxidants with anti-clotting nutrients.
Coconut & Coconut Oil
Coconut belongs in the palm family(the Arecaceae). Coconut are distinct from other fruits because a large quantity of water even when immature. Coconut may be harvested for Drinking, Chewing its white flesh or processed for its Milk and Oil, which may be used for cooking or frying. Coconut have high fiber content, manganese, phosphorus, potassium. Ingestion of Coconut water can help prevent dehydration, aides digestion by fighting bacteria/parasites through the microbial properties contained in its oil.
Coconut oil is good for the skin when applied directly on it, it helps reduce fine lines, and makes the skin glow. Coconut also helps to fight kidney stone, bronchitis, ulcers, toothache, etc.
Banana and Plantain
Bananas flourish in the tropics and takes amount 9 months to grow to maturity and produce a bunch of bananas.There are three varieties of bananas: Cavendish (the regular most common variety), Lady Fingers (the short, plump variety also called Sugar Banana), Plantains (also called Cooking Banana are either cooked or fried in stripes to make Plantain Chips commonly eaten in Nigeria).
Bananas and Plantains are very high in potassium, carbohydrate, vitamin A, B6, C, magnesium. They Cholesterol and sodium free fruits. It helps the Cardiovascular system, and lowers blood pressure. They help to maintain strong bones.
Even banana and plantain peels are good sources of Vitamin B6 and B12. These peels are consumed in different ways in various parts of the world. In Nigeria the peels are dried and ground to make a kind of Flour used as swallows for soup delicacies. The flowers are also consumed in certain parts of Asia.
Crude Palm Oil & Palm Fruit

This is vegetable oil derived from the Palm fruit. They are better grown in tropical areas as they flourish in heat and rainfall. Palm fruits come from oil palm trees grown mainly Africa and South-east Asia.
They are better grown in tropical areas as they flourish in hot and humid climate.
They used in foods, toothpastes, soaps, body and hair creams, cleaning products etc.
They are good for preventing Vitamin A deficiency, high blood pressure, malaria and even cancer. They contain Vitamin E, Antioxidants.
Kola-Nuts
This
is the origin of the term ‘Cola’. It is obtained from the kola tree found
mostly in the tropical rainforests of Africa. It contains Caffein(a stimulant) which is used in the production of
beverages.
Cola-cola
originated as a result of the combination of the Extract of Kola and Coca(a
cash crop in the South Americas) with other ingredients including Carbonated
Water and Sugar. It’s also been known for its spiritual significance in the
Western parts of Africa. Also ground and used as spice for certain delicacies.
They help reduce fatigue, depression, dysentry, asthma and even migranes and headaches. Also rumoured to be good at Supressing hunger(good as weightloss regiment), prevent from sleeping disorders, and
enhances alertness.
Groundnut(Peanuts) and Groundnut Oil
Groundnut or peanuts belong in
the Fabaceae
family i.e the legume and bean family. Groundnuts are annual crops grown hot
regions such as in West Africa (Nigeria) and cultivated either by hand or
through ploughing.
Groundnut can be eaten as a seed or processed into oil used
for cooking and other domestic purposes. These oils can also be used in making
cosmetics. They can be ground to make various kinds of meals. In Nigeria it
used for peanut snacks, groundnut soup, groundnut cake etc.
They are rich in energy containing about 560 Calories per 100grams and 25% protein per 100g serving. It contains Vitamins B, E and Manganese, phosphorus and dietary fiber.
They act as good anti-oxidants, it boosts memory power (via Vitamin B3), helps fight depression, It lowers cholesterol levels in the body, It also helps reduce the risk of heart disease. Prevents Gallstones and aids blood sugar regulation.
